On completion the learner will be able to:
1.Undertake to abide by the NSSM’s National Standards & Guidelines and our Code of Ethics.
2. Appreciate the scope of practice of the NSSM Practitioner
3. Be familiar with the history of massage & bodywork therapies
4. Understand the role of trigger points in numerous pain scenarios, their formation and treatment
5. Be capable of performing massage techniques including Effleurage, Pettrisage, Kneading, Hacking, Skin Rolling, and Tapotement, with appropriate and effective biomechanics for their own safety and that of their clients.
6. Develop an injury management plan involving correct screening and referral, when appropriate
7. Understand the role of inflammation in the healing process
8. Describe the physiology of injury and the stage s of repair
9. Perform MET’s and Positional Release methods to reduce pain and normalize range of motion by means of non-invasive, non-painful neuromuscular techniques.
