Aculight IPL is the latest and most technologically advanced alternative to electrolysis, and waxing.
A qualified technician uses a laser which works by the principle of Selective Photothermolysis. The laser is pulsed for a fraction of a second and emits a beam of light onto the skin. The light energy passes harmlessly through the skin, and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and hair shaft impairing their ability to grow.
A cooling handpiece is incorporated to protect the outer layer of skin and decrease the surface temperature and prevent thermal injury. The cooling tip also provides a mild anaesthetic property allowing areas to be treated as painlessly as possible.
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated. The upper lip will take a few minutes while the back or legs can take up to an hour. The laser works by disabling hair in the active growth stage at the time of treatment. Because not all hairs are in this stage during treatment, additional treatments will be necessary to disable all the hair follicles in the area being treated. Treatments are usually given at 4-6 week intervals, or when new hair growth occurs.
Within about 30 minutes of treatment, the area may become pink or red. Clients describe it as mild sunburn, and this reaction usually subsides within a day or so. Because the laser does not damage the skin, no bandages are necessary.
After treatment you may return to normal actitites, clean the area using mild soap and water. You should avoid tanning and use a sunscreen on any treated areas exposed to the sun.
