Laser Treatment - Thread veins

Why is laser treatment for thread vein removal the better way?

The treatment that offers best results today is the Nd-Yag Laser. In the past, thread veins have been treated with injections, surgery or surface creams and ointments. Some if these treatments are ineffective and painful, others may cause scarring. None of these treatments offer the quality results that the laser delivers.

How do the treatments work?

Today's new laser technology delivers precise dosages of energy to each vein, with a minimal risk to the skin. During these treatments, light energy is delivered through a special handpiece to the targeted vein. The energy is then absorbed by the blood vessels. The heat/energy absorption causes a thermocoagulation (clogging) of the blood vessel. The clogged vessel is then slowly absorbed by the body. The treatment is non-invasive, as it involves no needles and no cutting.

Will the treatments work on my face and body?

Prior to treatment we will review your medical history to determine how long you have had a problem with thread veins. We will need to determine your skin type and if you have had any prior skin treatments. We will also discuss your objectives and fully explain your treatment and projected outcome.

Do laser vein treatments hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Some patients opt to have a topical anaesthesia. After treatment, the pain is minimal to non-existent.

How long do treatments take?

Depending on the number of vessels treated and their location, treatments can take from 30 to 60 minutes.

Will the veins return after treatment?

Optimal results can be maintained only if you apply sunscreen on the treated area and avoid sun exposure. Over time it is possible for new veins to grow in, but these too can be erased.

Are these treatments safe?

Yes. Nd-Yag Lasers have been used safely for millions of treatments world-wide. These systems treat only the targeted vessels, usually not affecting the surrounding tissue. However, some bruising or redness may occur. The risk of scarring is small.

What will my recovery be like?

Postoperative discomfort is minimal. Your postoperative appearance will vary depending on what type of treatment your doctor selects for your condition.

After treatment with laser some swelling, redness and on rare occasions, some minor blistering or some bruising may appear around the treated areas. This can be covered with make-up if desired and will fade away in about two weeks.

Following any treatment, your skin may feel tender for several days. You should follow your doctor's instructions, avoid any harsh skin cleansers and use sunscreen. .

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments needed depends on the size, location, colour and thickness of the lesion being treated. Usually treatment is completed in one session, although sometimes it may take two or three sessions. Leg veins may take more treatments than facial veins.
